Figo (port wine magnolia)
Full Sun - Part shade / Height to 2M / Width to 2M / Keep Moist / Mulch well / Fragrant flowers
An evergreen, rounded shrub or small tree with glossy green, oval leaves. Richly fragrant, brownish-purple flowers are borne in spring and summer. The rich fragrance of the flowers makes this shrub a useful addition to any shrubbery.
Thrives in moist, humus rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partly shaded location protected from frost. Avoid transplant-ing once established. Apply mulch in spring to keep roots cool and moist. Pruning will produce new flowering growth. Water well in summer. Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so the soil level is the same as the sur-rounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist.
